Streaming video in my browser stops when after effects is open

Hello

I like to stream video while working in After Effects. It keeps me entertained when I am working on animations.I often have After Effects open all day long, and sometime clients will send me links to view for reference while working in AE.

The problem is that the broswer will stop streaming with AE open unless I press play preview in AE. this is annoying because I cannot preview and edit layers at the same time, and I can no longer watch Netflix or stream a poccast while I am working.

i feel like this is new with an update within the last year because I have had no issues with this before.

i went through my preferences and found "disable video output when in the background, but unchecking had zero affect.

Thanks

Paul

Interesting. Are your proferences identical between the two versions? If so, I'll try to make sure we get some eyes from the AE team on that.

I just contacted an Adobe tech guy and he took control of my computer and he found a "corrupted preference file"  in AE 2021 that seemed to be causing that issue. He said it was the first he had heard about anything like this. But he delted the preference files and it works fine now.

thanks!!

yeah - "Disable video output" would only change your video to a different monitor, shouldn't change how the browser works.  Odd that AE is effecting Netflix at all.  Are you watching through Chrome? / Try watching through Chrome?

so I just tried it in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. if I am streaning video in any 3 of these broswers and I open AE the stream stops until i press the space bar (video preview) then the streaming continues. So AE is defintily controling externaling streaming.

Definitely sounds like the space bar isn't isolated to AE. what happens if you use "0" on the number pad, or remap play to another key/functions?

Huh. My first inclination is that this would be related to your video card or its drivers. I'd first make sure those are up to date.

Have you tried this in other browsers? Tried disabling GPU usage in AE to see if that makes a difference?

I just did a test on AE 2020 and it works perfectly so its an issue with AE 2021

Awesome! Glad to hear it was an easy fix.
