Super slow performance 18.x

I'm finding AE to be incredibly slow recently. It takes several minutes for the comp to update when it's simply text layers (SF Pro Display) and a still image (3840x2160 png). There are no particle effects, filters, or anything else that may cause this behavior. I've tried every single 18.x release from .1 to the latest 18.4.1 and they all do this. I've reset everything on my laptop I can think of and nothing helps.

I clear my cache daily, sometimes several times each day. With that, I found a work-around. Apple's own .dmg installer for SF Pro Display seems to not play well with Adobe's AE (haven't tested with any other apps like InDesign or Illustrator). After deleting all traces of original font from Font Book, I installed an older stand-alone .ttc from 2018 which completely fixed this issue. I can actually scrub and do all normal work in AE.

When was the last time you dumped your AE Media cache?
