Time Remapping

I am a newbie to After Effects but I have done a number of tutorials and I am beginning to catch on. My problem now is with using the loopOut(); expression to loop my layers (5 of them). Apparently I am supposed to Enable Time Remapping in order to get the space to enter the expression but that option is grayed out in the menu. I have tried clicking one layer and all 5 layers .. nothing seems to work. Each layer has 2 keyframes. Everything works the first time through. I must be missing another setting somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do:...Enabling time remapping is not how you create an expression.  What you do is ALT-Click on the stopwatch of the property you want to add the expression to.  A loop out expression and Time Remapping are two totally different things.

Time Remapping is only available for video files or precompositions. If that option is not available try to precompose every layer (Layer > Precompose) to enable time remapping.
