Timecode change

Enthusiast ,
Jun 27, 2022 Jun 27, 2022

Hi,

I am using After Effects 2020. I want to see my timecode in seconds for following a tutorial. I do some research and changed timecode in project setting. Pressctrl and changed time. but nothing brings the second in my timeline.

What do I have to do to get second instead of frames?

Thank you.

Hi Suriaya,

As Warren says, you just need to Ctrl or Cmd + click on the time display at the top left under the name of your comp to change the time from frames to seconds.

Hope that helps!

What After Effects displays along the Time Ruler in the Timeline is based on the Timeline Panel Zoom level.  The Composition duration and the width of where AE displays the Layer Time Span affects what zoom level can be displayed as well as how many steps we may need to zoom-in in order to see the Frames Indicator (f) instead of the Seconds Indicator (s) or the Minutes Indicator (m).  For example, a three second (0:00:03:00) Comp may be so short that only "f" shows while a thirty minute (0:30:00:00) Comp may require several steps to go from showing "m" to "s" to "f".

Zoom-in on the Timeline and you'll eventually see the Frames Indicator (f) instead of the Seconds Indicator (s).

This screenshot shows the keyboard shortcuts for Timeline Panel Zoom.

there is no reason for that, did you try to restart AE after changing to timecode from project settings? also did you have the same issue with a new project or only this project?

I misread your post.

To toggle from Frame Count (your Time Ruler) to Timecode (the other Time Ruler), control-click the blue Current Time indicator at the upper left of the Timeline panel.  On Mac, this would be command click.
