Question

Typing an apostrophe returns a single quote

Hi,

When I type an apostrophe in After Effects, it gives me the '6' shaped single quote. What I need is the actual apostrophe (U+0027). I can't get it to change back, even copying and pasting an actual apostrophe from the character map of the font I'm using pastes a single quote - but it seems to be happening with all fonts.

How can I fix this?

Many thanks

The Character Panel's Hamburger Menu allows you to reset its properties/parameters with the Reset Character option. See if this helps.

Well, the adobe website seems to deliberately send you in circles when trying to find a support chat. Not sure what to do about this now. Very disappointed.

Maybe you tried those workarounds,  but just some thoughts:

  • Click on the menu of the Character panel and choose the last command  "reset characters"
  • Reset Ae preferences
  • Try copy-paste from Photoshop, Ai, or a text editor
  • If you don't want to animate text properties, create texts in photoshop or illustrator and use those
  • Convert text created in photoshop into after effects text (right-click on layer > create > convert to editable text) and see if it's converted correctly
  • Try the Beta version of AE
