Unexpected Drawing Error

Hello, I am trying to take a video I have and add a simple rain effect and music to the background, but whenever I put in any video, no audio plays. I then go to the audio panel to see if the scale is moving. Since it was not moving I knew it wasn't a problem with my speakers. Then I get the message that an unexpected or unexplained (something like that) drawing error has occurred. I then click ok to get rid of the message, and it pops back up. I have restarted after effects multiple times, same with my computer, and even tried different clips with audio to see if it would work with something else. I continue to get the error. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

You have not provided any useful info like actual system info, preview settings, hardware accelkeration preferences and so on. As always: start by updating your drivers and configuring them suitably, then check all the relevant options in AE and tweak them.

Sorry to be a problem but I have absolutely no idea what that means. I'm trying to learn about computers themselves but as of now, I only really know how to use the program. This is the first real error I have had with it.

Are you using Windows, if so what version? That error basically means that After Effects is having problems "drawing" an update to the user interface, as in changing a part of your screen to show a new video frame or a modified value. It's "unspecified" because After Effects doesn't know why the operating system failed to do what it was told. It's not a fault with After Effects per se, it's just that After Effects doesn't know how to react to the problem.

One recently-reported bug that pops up that mesage is with Windows machines that have their 'display scaling' value changed from default (which is commonly done when you have a high-resolution monitor), and when you are using a different workspace in After Effects than the standard setups found under the Window > Workspaces menu.

Beyond that it's very hard to be of help, because these errors can also be caused by a whole raft of operating system problems, such as bugs in the driver software for your graphics card, faulty Windows updates, etc. Adobe finds it extremely hard to track down those bugs and often can't do anything to fix them.
