Vibration Effect?

Hey I apologize if this is a bit off topic, this is my first time posting on here. I've wanted to create a Superman lift off effect. I can do that great, however I have one problem. I want to make it like Film Riot on YouTube, except the problem is I can't get the rocks to Vibrate and be 3D-ish like in the movies and how Film Riot do it. Nowhere on YouTube does it say anything about it. The shot is of his hand yet around him pebbles and small  gravel pieces start vibrating/shaking and blends in well to the ground. Yet it's noticeable enough to see them moving well.

I'm assuming it has to do with 3D camera tracking but I still haven't figured that out.

Please help. Thanks a bunch.

Correct answer P.M.B

Looks like 3d geometry instanced onto a particle simulation or a rigid body simulation & likely done in a full 3d package like Maya.

I don't know of any free tutorials specifically.

Years ago Alex Alverez of Gnomon Workshop produced a fantastic series of tutorials about working with particles in Maya.

They're old but still relevant in concept.

They cover the basic concepts of doing something like that and much more.

Between particle instances & rigid bodies the rigid body sim is the simpler of the two:

Basically setting up a poly plane to match the the ground with a positional expression to make it vibrate

and then add a bunch of 3d objects (rocks) as collision objects, tweaking their settings (mass, intital velocity, etc..).

Render the simulation with visibility of the ground plane disabled & finally compositing the render into the shot in After Effects.
