Video codec not supported for videos over 3 mins and probably shorter too. when i do vids below 1 min they play perfectly fine without having to adjust any settings. videos will however work on androids. i tried several video compression softwares and they dont work. once upon a time Handbrake worked but now it gives the same error. videos will play on my android with a 3rd party app but I want it to play naturally

Video Codecs are quite often proprietory.  The creators want to you pay for something.  Generally you can watch videos in any player, but when you want to make changes, you're using them in an editor.  A three minute limitation suggests there's DRM at play.

Yo might be able to convert the video to something you can edit.  Try Adobe Media Encoder and if that doesn't work, try VLC or Handbrake

Sorry, but that's useless. You have not provided any exact technical info like the specs of the video, where you got them from and so on. If they don't even open in Handbrake then clearly they are out of wack.
