Video copilot Advanced lightening

Hi everyone! I am creating Video copilots Advanced Electric FX. But whwn I've pre-composed the lightening layer (9:34), the adjusting markers, the pink dots on the top and below the lightening disappear. This i how it looks:

 

 

I can't do any size or direction adjusting at all. Have tried long time. What to do? And thank you everyone for all the help you provide. Really appreciated.

It works as it is supposed to and the tutorial uses multiple comp viewers later on for the positioning. If you need a different level of control, you can always use extra point controls and link stuff with pickwhip expressions...
