Question

Warp Stabilizer not working as it should

I've been using it for years with great results. Now.. ever since 2002, the thing just hangs, freezes, crashes.. or never starts.

I've seen countless threads about it, and it's always the same ineffective fixes.. clear the cache, make sure your comp is the same size as your footage...etc. Yet no one seems to be asking the right question: Is this thing just broken, and no one wants to admit it? I'm asking you, ADOBE.

The ability of Warp Stabilizer to improve a shot depends entirely on the combination of the settings and the motion in the shot. Different kinds of motion require different settings. It's incredibly difficult to warp stabilize a hand-held shot while walking through times square with hundreds of people moving in different directions. Stabilizing a hand-held shot of a single person walking down a path is relatively easy. Follow that person walking down a path in the woods until they walk into a wheatfield blowing in the wind, and you have another set of problems to deal with.

I just tried a simple shot in the last three versions of AE and got nearly identical results with the same settings. 23 was significantly faster.

Show us your shot, and maybe we can make some meaningful suggestions.

Can you provide footage or repro steps that cause the problems you see?
