Weird glitched stroke in 3D shape when Bevel and Emboss is applied

Hi! I was trying to do a Bevel Emboss coupled with Time Displacement effect to get that twisty animation effect, trouble is after i've turned the layer 3D and rotate it at the Y axis this fuzzy outline (on the stroke) appeared and i cannot get rid of it , this is the first time i've encountered this issue and not really sure how to fix it. My renderer is definately set to Advanced 3D etc, i've turned off all shadows and light because i only wanted a flat vector look. As you can see from the screenshot in Custom View 2 it's present on the other 2 shapes but didn't appear until i set some animation key frames. It's definately in the test mp4 i rendered out in case it's just a preview glitch, any ideas? Thank you.

Thanks Nishu, please see project file attached. I've tested in both AE and AE beta and they both rendered the same results.

Hi Jane289706152awj

I took a look at your project and was able to fix the issue by setting the opacity of the Fill on each shape to 99%. The issue seems to be in how AE handles 2D objects in 3D space. A similar issue occurs anytime you have two overlapping layers with the same Z Position in a 3D Comp. When looking straight on there usually is no visible conflict, presumably because AE is just picking one of the layers and pretend its "in front" for the time being. However, any movement that enters Z space, including X and Y 3D rotations of the layer or the camera, creates a similar weird looking effect as the one you're having. The issue being that two seperate objects simply cannot occupy the exact same space at one time, whether in a virtual 3D enviroment or in real life. So, since strokes and a fills are seperate properties that overlap one another, in a 3D enviroment they are viewed as two seperate objects occupying the same space, thus making it impossible to determine whether the stroke or the fill is in front, and AE ends up just showing you a weird combination of both the stroke and the fill at the same time. Now, the reason that changing the opacity by 1% fixes this is not something I'd be smart enough to answer with any confidence.

Thanks for reaching out, Jane.

It happens when 2 3d layers occupy the same Z space. Try moving one of the objects on the Z axis by at least 1 pixel.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu, thanks for replying, to a degree you are correct however the problem is still there, not sure what set it off, i've used this effect many times before and i don't think i've changed my rendering settings. As you can see i didn't even set any extrusion depth yet before the glitch appears.

Thanks for sharing the screen recording. Would you be willing to share the project file with me for testing? Feel free to send the file via DM if you prefer not to share it publicly.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Nishu
