What does the "Preview" checkbox in Composition Settings do ?

Hi there,

I am using AE for a bit now, but still have no idea what the "Preview" checkbox at the left bottom of the "Composition settings" window do ? I noticed it seems to be tickable only after the comp is created. I am totally unable to deduce what it does, except maybe cleaning the preview cache ?

I don't get it, I am quite curious about that

(BTW I am using it in french so I hope the labels are correct).

It allows you to see the changes that you are about to make before clicking okay.

Try creating a new Comp at a custom 1,080 x 1,080 with yellow as the background color.

Go back into the Comp settings and change the Comp width and height and background color and make sure to stay in the Comp Sertings dialog box.  If Preview is enabled, you’ll see the Comp panel update as you adjust these settings.  If Preview is not, you will not see Comp panel update until after you clock OK.

Haha! Oh my god, I feel so stupid.

I was so upset with the lagging preview of my heavy comp that I felt like everything named Preview could be related to that. Never thought of that, though it's so logicial.

The bottom left-most button is the "Always preview this view" button. It's useful when you have a Composition viewer that represents your finished product and you always want to preview that viewer, even when you’re changing settings in other views.

Thanks but I was talking about the box that is in the Composition Settings under Composition > Composition settings.
