Question

What software is best for this?

Hi!  I'm not an animator (yet...). I want to shoot documentary footage of people talking and then somehow run it through some brilliant software that turns all the characters into cartoon animals! (or.. at least renders them unrecognizable, if not animals...) Which software can do this most easily?  Afterfx?  Blender?  Cartoon Animator (formerly CrazyTalk,) Reallusion iClone?  Cost is a factor but also... also feasibility... i'll have to learn it from the ground up.  I used to be an editor.  I once taught my self Indesign in 2 weeks... so i'm not without *any* confidence, but... i realize some mountains are really really big.  Any advice would rock.

After Effects is not the tool you are looking for. You could try some of the Adobe AI tools in Adobe Sensei or experiment with other AI-generated cartoon tools. Just beware that you are not able to copyright AI-generated artwork or movies. It lacks a personal artistic touch, and a 10-year-old can do it, so the likelihood that you can make a living relying on AI-generated videos is very small. AI may be useful for generating ideas, but relying on AI to build a career as an animator is probably not a really good idea. There are no real shortcuts to learning how to tell a good and effective story using moving images.

Adobe Character Animator may be a better choice. That will allow you to create characters and easily animate them. You will also own your work if you create something amazing.

The most important thing to learn about animation is how to tell a story with composition, movement, color, sound, and music. AI can do some amazing things, but it does not yet have an artist's eye; it just looks at the vast amount of data out there and throws things together that it thinks will satisfy you.

thanks Rick Gerard!  this project is not about making money, though does need to "work" in terms of grabbing viewers and holding their attention... so, thank you.  I keep hoping AI can roughly create it, then i can tweak and improve it.  my main purpose is to protect the anonymity of the people talking in the footage, but also of course, to make something cool.  Thanks again!
