Where to begin creating this particular effect?

Hey guys, I was wondering how to create an animated visual akin to something like an MRI scan.

I think you'll want to think about exactly what you're trying to accomplish in the animation, and give us a detailed description.

Based on that example, you're going to need an MRI machine, for starters.....

Basically you'll need a static particle field and modulate it with suitable maps. Depending on what plug-ins you have (or not) this could be anything from near impossible to a lot of hard work, but at any rate it's not going to be a cakewalk. such stuff is difficult to do even in 3D programs doe to the elaborate texturing and particle setup required. If you're really just looking for a human MRI scan slicing through the body, it might be easier to buy some stock footage/ download some free sample data sets as you may find them from medical universities.
