In After Effects, "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" and "Zoom with Trackpad (pinch in/out gesture)" work inconsistently. When zooming with the scroll wheel, it functions relative to the center of the composition area, whereas when zooming with a trackpad (pinch in/out), it works relative to the pointer, which is inconsistent and annoying.
The same issue occurs in Photoshop, but it works vice versa for some reason.
In Illustrator, zooming works fine; it always zooms in and out relative to the pointer, regardless of the pointing device being used.

After Effects | center | pointer |
Photoshop | pointer | center |
Illustrator | pointer | pointer |
Please, pay attention to this issue and fix it. Make zooming in After Effects and Photoshop same good and consistent as in Illustrator when using different input devices.

In After Effects, when you hold down the Option key (on Mac), ALT (on Windows) while zooming in, it zooms in relative to the pointer. Let us know if it helps.
Feel free to reach out. I am moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions.

@nishu_kush But it's not consistent with the other Adobe apps, thus the learning curve is quite high. Don't you care about the consistency of your apps, Adobe?

Hi,
This has always been a problem with After Effects. Photoshop got it right, when you zoom on the image you want to zoom where the cursor is pointing because that is where you are working! This is not rocket science, just ask yourself how often you have wanted to zoom to the center of the window instead of where the cursor is pointing. In fact, if anyone at Adobe can think of any reasonable use case where zooming to the center of the screen is more important than zoom to the area you are working on, I'll send you $20! I have been using AE almost since it was created and I have never, ever said to myself, "Gee, I really need to zoom to the center of the window". I love many of the new features in Adobe software, but when you keep holding on to clunky, outdated user interfaces, less powerful but easier to use alternatives are going to keep gaining traction - especially with students. BTW, a user interface feature that is counter intutive, counter productive, and counter to the rest of product suite is not a topic for discussion, it is a bug.
