Ability to Save/Load/Manage Composition Presets

I have created many Composition Presets specific to common device screens, individual projects, and other unique uses. There doesn't appear to be a way to save or load these presets, or manage the order of the list. Ae should have the ability to do this, much the same was we can already manage Render Settings and Output Modules.

Custom presets should be saved in the default custom presets folder. I have created an alias to a Dropbox folder for my custom presets and organized them in folders. This gives me access to all animation presets no matter where I am, and they can always be updated. As long as you save your presets in the default folder, they will show up in the Effects and Presets panel.

The default path on a Mac is User/Documents/Adobe/Adobe After Effects 2023/User Presets/Custom AE Presets.  I am not 100% sure where the Custom Presets folder is on a Windows machine.

@Mike Foran That's for this feedback! How many Composition Presets do you find yourself using on a regular basis?

Thanks again,

@Rick Gerard The request here appears to be for save/load/manage of Composition Presets, not Animation Presets. The Composition Presets are stored in the text preference files rather than on disk.

John, I have about a 20 presets that I use. Several are modeled after specific portable devices, like particular iPhones and Samsung phones (the new Ae2023 presets aren't quite enough here). I have a few specific to a company that produces animated stickers. I have some that are common to my work that are not included with the standard set, like 1920x1080 23.976 fps, and I would like to group them with the other similar presets. Sometimes I get jobs that are for custom dimensions, like stage screen setups or digital billboards, and I create a preset and want to move it to the top of the list.

Thanks Rick, but the presets I am talking about are the Composition Presets which are available in the Composition Settings window. However, your suggestion about creating an alias to a Dropbox folder for Presets is great, and it's exactly what I do. I also do the same for the Scripts folder and my third party plugins.

Could the use of the Libraries panel be expanded for After Effects? Right now it only creates mogrt, but could it be used for compositing templates and other things like layer sets? I find the design of the presets panel a bit outdated. It would be great to switch to the libraries panel, to manage names, folders, thumbnail directly in that panel.

@Mike Foran Thank you for those examples! Those are extremely helpful to make our design team aware of the needs in this area. The improvements you've listed (save, load, reorder, grouping) would be great to see for other items that utilize the same preset mechanism as Compositions ( Cameras, for instance ). Thanks again for the insights on this.

There are two little icons just to the right of the Composition Presets. When you create a new comp, you can click the first one to give it a name. It will show up at the bottom of the List. If you don't want to keep a Composition preset, use the second icon, which looks like a trash can, to delete it.

It would be nice to be able to organize the list in the same way you can organize workspaces in the toolbar, but saving a comp preset is available right there in the Composition Settings panel.

You can save the Composition Presets. You cannot reorder the list.
