Timeline folders. We have them in Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator... precomps can utterly ruin your work and is NOT an alternatives to having a simple folder hierarchy - especially when dealing with shape layers or anything that requires continual rasterization.

Hey, Adobe: We've decided that we DON'T want folders now. Ok? So whatever you do, please do not add folders to After Effects. Thank you!

We've spent years asking for folders in After Effects, to no avail. But we've never tried asking NOT to have folders! Maybe that's the key we've been missing this whole time! It's classic reverse psychology!!!

After Effects is the only Adobe app with no direct equal, so if Adobe can't make money from it then they're as bad at business as they are at developing apps. For all its faults, AE is literally the only reason I have a CC subscription

I wonder if there's a particular reason Adobe can't be bothered to implement this basic feature.

Sadly I think it is more likely a lack of motivation. After Effects doesn't make a lot of money, so it's not a priority. Just a guess though

incompetence.

There is literally nothing I want more in AE than this... well, I'd like it to be stable and more reliable, but I don't expect that to happen

Well it's taken them over 20 years to fix copy and paste of keyframes.  They are a useless company and need a serious overhaul

The most obvious request for the last 15 years. It's 2024 now and we still don't have groups

Adobe LOVES not listening to its users.  I think they're masochists first, a proper company second.
