Option to choose if pre-comps inherit label colour from parent comp

I'd like to suggest adding an option to choose if a pre-comp inherits the label colour from the parent comp it was created in. This could live as a checkbox in the pre-compose modal, or if that wants to remain as uncluttered as possible it could be an option in Preferences > Labels.

The use case for me is project organisation - I tend to use one label colour for top-level shots, then colour-code pre-comps as needed. It adds a layer of additional management to go through and change the pre-comps so they don't have the same label as the top-level comps.

Hi @Mike Choo,

Thanks for making this request! Does this pertain to labels within the Project panel, or also in the Timeline? I'm asking because pre-comps made in the Timeline retain their current label color.

Thanks again,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Hey John!

I'm thinking both as the default - for my workflow I'd be looking to have the project and timeline labels be the same.

Currently I go through and update the label colour in both the project panel and the timeline, so if the default was to have both behave the same that would work for me.

So thinking it through, I guess the behaviour would be if the 'don't inherit parent comp label colour' checkbox was enabled, then the project label and timeline label would default to the standard composition colour.

A possible addition would be to have two 'don't inherit' options, one for project and one for timeline, whether that would be overcomplicating it or not is up for debate!

Cheers,

Mike
