I'm having the 'green' mp4 problem in PP v 14.0.1. on Mac

Question

I have mp4 clips in a 4k timeline, but they flicker green/purple and completely torn up all the time. I'm running Mojave 10.14.6, with PP at 14.0.1, using Metal for Playback and rendering. I know this issue has been going on a long time, disappointed to see it continues. Ideas?

EDIT: Bizarrely, I am discovering that if you change the suffix to the file from .mp4 to .mpg, the green madness goes away. However, I then face a new problem as the audio sync is thrown wildly off (only when the clip is in the Source monitor or edited into the timeline, but in the Finder it's OK). This .mpg 'solution' seems like a Bandaid, frankly, and I'm not at all keen to use it as a solution.

EDIT 2: I get exactly the same results as above if I rewrap the mp4 into a mov using Cineplay - no green breakup/flicker, but audio out of sync.

I had this issue after capturing video with the MacOS "Command + Shift + 5" method of recording .MOV files. When trying to edit these MOV files in Premiere, I'd see pink and purple issues during playback. To get around it, I used iMovie to convert them to .MP4 files, which then worked in Premiere. Note: converting to .MP4 from Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder did not work.
