9:16 ratio on AfterEffects exporting distorted

New Here ,

I'm trying to export a video from AfterEffects that is 9:16 (1080x1920) for an instagram story, but everytime it ends up being squashed to something more like 1440x1080. I've rendered it straight through AE, and put it through Media Encoder as well, and in both places it tells me that it's sized correctly/will export the size I want it to, but then doesn't. Help?

Look at the Pixel Aspect Ratio, you have to set it in square pixels 1.0.

In addition to Pixel Aspect Ratio...

What Format are you choosing in Media Encoder and, more importantly, which Preset are you choosing?

Some formats do not support non-standard video frame sizes.  QuickTime with Apple ProRes should allow you to create almost any custom frame size you like.  H264 is fairly flexible as well.

As far as Presests go, make sure it has "Match Source" in the preset name.
