AE Compositing 3ds Max Scene

Can anyone provide advice on how to import a 3ds Max scene into AE, or at least how to bring in a helper/null which has the 3D data of the scene.

I wish to add some annotations in 3D space using After Effects, rather than tracking the footage/image sequence I thought it might be possible to pull in a reference point from max which I can then fix annotations to but I'm not sure what the best way to go about this would be.

I can successfully render out of 3ds Max as an RPF, bring that sequence into AE and extract both the camera and channels (z-depth for example) and it works great, but I think this is as far as I can go with the RPF format.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance
