Can't edit footage in after effects

I am nearly finished a project in premiere pro, I want to add some effects (brush stroke effects and zoom effects) in after effects but i cant do anything in after effects , i have been able to in the past but it just won't let me and i can't find a solution, its probably something simple but I cant figure it out 😧

Without more specific info and something liek a screenshot nobody will be able to tell you anything. Such "I can't do this and that..." are utterly useless when you don't describe your procedures exactly and offer up some basic technical details like system info along with it.
