chunk in file too big

I'm on Mac OS Big Sur 11.4 and I'm running AE 2021. I can't open this old project file.  I asked my buddy who owned Windows to try and open it and he got the same errors as me (see below). I tried to drag project file into a new project and it didnt work. anyone ever been able to bypass these errors?

• After Effects: this project must be converted from version 13.8.1 (Windows 64). The original file will be unchanged.
• After Effects error: chunk in file too big - probably unsupported file version ( 33 :: 7 )
• After Effects warning: Unable to read project color settings. Color settings reset to factory defaults.
• After Effects error: file is damaged. ( 33 :: 7 )
