Does putting AE project files on SSD make a big difference as compared to HDD?

So, I have a small SSD and a big HDD in my computer. SSD has Windows on it and the AE installation is on it too. All other data, I keep on the HDD. I am learning 2D character animation so using AE primarily for that.

Will it make a big difference in the speed of preview rendering and making AE work faster if I put the AE project files on the SSD as opposed to putting them on the HDD?

This will only effect the startup/asset loading time of AE. If you are working with thousend of assets, or gigabytes of assets, this might be useful. However, no effect on preview rendering time.

It would be helpful to put AE cache on this SSD, or to get another SSD just for caching. Cache on HDD is noticeable slow.

What slows down AE when animating a character is the heavy use of expressions and working with vector layers.

I usual animate in 1/4 resolution to get acceptable preview rendering times.

That will depend on the speed of your HDD's revolutions per minute, 7200 rpm or 5400 rpm. But in general, it is suggested that you standardize your system with SSDs for file material, media cache, projects, applications, operating system, etc. SSDs have won our hearts due to their versatility, speed and support, so if you ask me and if you have the money I would suggest that you install another SSD and leave that HDD for your backups.
