green line in the time bar won't fill to the end

Hi!

I'm trying to preview (with spacebar / 0 num pad) my work but the green line in the timeline never gets to the end, and so the preview never runs all way to the end.

the moment the current time indicator gets to the end of the green line, it loops back to the beginning.

it happened first in one project and suddenly happened in others as well. even projects that I could preview entirely now stops somewhere in the middle.

I have tried to clear all cache and "disable layer cache".

none of them helped.

didn't try to reinstall AE.

thanks in advance

The length of the preview depends on the composition, frame size, frame rate and your system resources. AE is not a NLE, it is an app for creating composites and motion graphics that you cannot create in a NLE. Using AE as a video editor is the improper use of the tool. You have created a 40-second comp which tells me that you are trying to edit in AE. You also have your composition panel set to Full resolution when it should be set to Auto. The Active Camera view is not selected so I don't know what the magnification ratio is but I'm guessing it is about 25% so you have just cut your total playback time by at least 50%.

These are AE basics that you should be familiar with. I suggest you spend some time learning how AE works and the proper use of the tools. More than 90% of my compositions are a single shot under seven seconds. Most of my AE sequences are no longer than a single sentence or single musical phrase so they are under 10 seconds. Almost editing of the final product is done in Premiere Pro. On rare occasions, I will combine a few AE comps in a master comp to render something that is a minute or two longer.

In a huge delay...

Thanks a lot for your help and for the detailed explanation. I have learned a lot from it. And It did solved the problem!

now im trying to understand your answer deeper.

You say that AE is not an editting app and it is not designed for such long composites.

But in this work I have built a kind of a "gallery" with 3D solid layers as walls and I want the camera to move around for a little less then a minute to show the items in the gallery.

Is there a better way to create a camera movement for a minute? I guess premiere pro wouldn't help in this case..

Again, thank you so much.

I have no idea WHY this answer is market as "correct". What does it means "Using AE as a video editor is the improper use of the tool". Which duration of comp is "Ok" for mister AE? "More than 40 sec" Just WOW. Sooo sorry, Adobe, for such a long composition. At least, if you saying that, please tell me: why AE allows you to create composition with any duration? Lets make it to be strongly limited by 10 seconds why not?

You've used up the available memory generating the preview.  Happens all the time.
