How to update a Motion Graphics Template

Community Beginner ,

Hi there,

I have created a Motion Graphics Template in AE and exported it to "Essential Graphics". I switched to PP and added it from there to the timeline. This works as advertised.

But I'm wondering: Is there any way to go back into AE, change that same template and have these changes reflected in the PP project which uses the original template?

I have not been able to find a way to do this. This is odd because it implies that your template needs to be perfect before you export and use it. If you want to change anything after that, you would need to create a second version of the template and start over adding and setting up all the instances of the template in PP again as there is no way to update the existing instances.

Does anyone have any idea how to update a Motion Graphics Template?

PS: I am using the latest versions of both programs

NO. and that's a big issue. if this is a problem, you should  consider using Live Text Templates instead.

Thanks for the prompt answer.

That's a huge bummer, though. It really limits the usefulness of Motion Graphics Templates.

As for the Live Text Templates: My understanding is that they have been replaced by Motion Graphics Templates. At least that's what I read and they seem to be gone in my version of AE.

Any insights on that?

Cheers

agree completely and have posted more than enough about it in the threads

not exactly. you can still use Live Text Templates just not as capsulated file (*.aecap) that contains all the media. this feature is gone. you can still open Ae comps in premiere and if they contain text layers, you will be able to edit them in Premiere. once you change the composition in Ae (animation or something else), they will update in Premiere.

Hey Roei,

Do you know if this is still an issue in AE CC 2019? I suspect it is, having just set up a load of captions in Premiere using an AE mogrt (I've never had much call for them before). I then updated the .mogrt, re-exported it, went to Premiere and no changes appeared. I even quit and restarted Premiere, but none of the captions I'd placed in my timeline were updated. No wonder I've never used these .mogrts much before - this is a terrible limitation!

I found this and solve my problem.
"Motion Graphics templates from After Effects that have been used and customized in a Premiere Pro sequence can be replaced with an updated version of the template. Hold Alt/Option while you click drag-and-drop the updated template onto the existing one in your sequence."
