Painting inside a mask?

I masked a photo and painted on the layer. But back on the composition it is showing the paint outside of the mask. I’ve done this before without any problems but suddenly it isn’t working. Is there a way to fix this?

In the Paint panel, make sure to choose Either;

RGB to paint on only the RGB values of the pixels, not affecting the Alpha (sounds like what you’re After?)

Alpha to Paint only within the Alpha channel (for making “Layer Masks”)

or RGBA for both

Open up the layer, then mask subsection in the timeline. Check that the menu to the right of the mask says 'Add' and that the inverted ckeckbox is not checked.
