Question

Premiere Pro doesn't import all .mogrt files created in After Effects

Hey there!

So, we're experiencing a little issue with .mogrt files. We've created templates using After Effects and now we are trying to use them in Premiere Pro. There are 3 projects in AE and each one has a few compositions used as the master, so at the end we are getting around 15 different .mogrt files out of them.

We are running into trouble with only one AE project (others are working like a charm!) that has 5 masters inside and we get 5 .mogrt files out of it. Out of those five three would import and work without a problem and two would give us the following error on the import: "This Motion Graphics Template is not compatible with this version of Premiere Pro. You must update to the latest version of Premiere Pro in order to use this template."

Easy, right? Not that much. Unfortunately the machines with Premiere Pro are locked and we can't just click "Update" and it can take our IT a few months before they perform the update for us. We need the solution by next week. So, this option currently out of reach it made us think it might not even be the reason, because we have successfully imported three out of five .mogrt files from the same source AE project with same settings and same source material. We have tried trimming the compositions, thought they were too long and the machine couldn't handled that, and saving again with the very same settings and we got a composition that wasn't working before working now, but other four (including all three that were working before!) wouldn't import.

There is one big difference between the three AE projects - the one we are having problems with is packed with materials and effects (even though all of them are stock ones). The .mogrt files we never had problems with are roughy 1.5MB, the files from the third AE project are 85MB.

So, could there be some other solution rather than waiting for our IT to handle the update?

Currently the versions we have are:

- AE CC 2019 16.0.1 (running on Mac)

- PP CC 2019 13.X (running on Windows, but currently I can't get information about the exact build)

Thanks in advance!

Ok. Try this on the PC. Take it back into After Effects (open it as a new project) save it out a template and add that one and see if that works. I know it is a workaround but if it works then great. Also note the issue with Adobe: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

UPDATE:

I can confirm exact versions of the software used:

- AE CC 2019 16.0.1 (Mac)

- PP CC 2019 13.0.2 (Windows)

Also, all these templates were tested on the Mac where they were created using PP CC 2019 13.0.2 and there were no issues at all and it worked like a charm.

I found the some CC18 AE templates had a hard time to update into CC19... they broke moving the into CC19. Could that be the issue? I ended up saving it out external then bringing back into Adobe Template panel. You can also try opening it up in After Effects CC19. It will convert it back to an AE file then send it back to Premiere as a template.

No, this can’t be the issue. The template was made from scratch in AE CC 2019 and imported into PP CC 2019.
