Shape Layers won't open when double clicking.

Hi Guys,

I have the weirdest problem:

When I select a shape laer in after effects it doesn't open in the preview window. It only happens with the shape layers, I restarted the program and my computer, used different AE versions and tried it with content in the layer and without.

Am i missing something obvious that maybe until now I had in the default settings that can influence this? has enyone ever had this issue?

By "preview window," I assume you mean the Layer viewer?
Shape layers don't actually have a "source," so there's really nothing to open. They're more closely related to a text layer (which you also can't view in the Layer viewer by double-clicking) than to a Solid, or image/video layer.

Perhaps the better question: what is it you feel like you're needing to accomplish in that view? (Can you just solo the layer?)

This is the normal behaviour for shape layers and text layers. There is nothing wrong with your After Effects. You must precompose them to have the option to open them as layers.
