Question

I get message "this type of file can harm your computer" when trying to install AA

AA was working fine until today tweetdeck said I needed to make an AA update.  I tried from the AA site, but I keep getting this message.  Then I tried to throw aware the AA application installer (already in on my computer from before) and nothing changed.  I pulled it on the desktop and double clicked, nothing happened.

Any clue what is wrong? Or what to do?  I'm not even clear "where" the adobe air program is since I cannot find it in my application folder.

I can't even find a way to uninstall or reinstall it.

Kate

Hi Kate,

This is a standard message from Windows when you try and run a file with a .exe extension.  The AIR installer will have a .exe extension, so it's an expected message and you can safely ignore it.  I'd recommend redownloading the installer from http://get.adobe.com/air and save it to your desktop.  Once saved, double click to start it and you should get a window to appear that walks you through the process.  Let me know if you run into problems and we can start troubleshooting further.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks Chris!

Just to clarify, I 'm using a MAC.

Also, whenever I try to download the intstaller, nothing happens and I still get that warning message.  I even have my old installer sitting on my desktop and nothing happens when I double click on it.

mystery.

I've searched all over the web on how to "unistall and reinstall" AA but for some reason there's nothing.  Strange.  It made me think AA is in some odd software category.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for clarifying.  You should be able to download the file "Adobe AIR.dmg" from the http://get.adobe.com/air/ link.  Check your "Downloads" folder for this file.  Once you double click it, it will mount an Adobe AIR volume that might or might not appear on your desktop.  If it doesn't appear on the desktop, open the Finder and look for it on the left bar.  Once you find it, go inside and double click the "Adobe AIR Installer" file.  That should start the process.  If the message appears, just click OK to allow it to continue.

As for the uninstaller, there should be an "Adobe AIR Uninstaller" application in your /Applications/Utilities folder.
