Will there be no update for Animate this year?

It's really shame that adobe only keep pushing ai features but ditch other features and software 🤷
I would be surprised if there will be any major updates for Animate. maybe decades later?

Sorry, but you have to be absolutely mad if you think that Adobe will be willing to give major updates to Animate decades after the fact. If decades pass since the last major update, then by that point Animate has been discontinued, and Adobe won't be obliged to even touch the app.
As for my stance, well since Adobe MAX 2025 has just come and gone, the Creative Cloud software still in development have recieved new 2026 versions. And once again, Adobe Animate did not make the cut for software with new releases. If by the release of Creative Cloud 2027, Animate still hasn't recieved a major update, it will most likely be discontinued. Adobe will either announce the discontinuation or just go forth with it silently.
Not much to do other than wait at this point.

Nothing so far. Isn't there any way to request a full release and make it open source?

Here, let me ask my Magic Ball
Chances that Adobe will open source Animate, based on historic past behaviour?

I created an account here just to express my disappointment, and anger with Adobe.
It's December 2025. There is no Animate 2025. The latest version is still 2024, the most unstable, buggy mess to date. You bought Macromedia Flash. You rebranded it. And then you let it rot. Animate has been outdated for years. You've done the bare minimum to keep it limping along while every other animation tool in the industry moved forward. And now you can't even be bothered to ship an annual version? You're just... done? Without a word? I've built my animation career on this software. Not because Adobe made it great, but because Macromedia built something great and I'm still clinging to that workflow. The way it handles symbols, the speed, the efficiency, that's all Flash. You inherited something valuable and you've spent years RUNNING it into the ground. This forum has almost 70k discussions, THOUSANDS of animators, hobbyists, webseries, rely on this software daily. Studios. Content creators. People building entire careers on a tool you clearly stopped caring about years ago. And we're STILL PAYING YOU. Every single month. For software you've completely abandoned.
You owe us answers. Anything. Is Animate being discontinued? Are you doing anything with it? Make it open source? Give it to another company?? Or are you just going to keep charging subscription fees while pretending this software doesn't exist?
We deserved better than this. We deserved a company that would take what Macromedia built and actually improve it. Instead, we got years of neglect followed by total silence. If you're killing Animate, have the decency to say so. If you're not, prove it. Do something. Say something. Stop treating your users like we don't exist. It's cowardly.

Spot on. People have been saying this for years now but from Adobe... crickets. Maddening.

Well said, but I laugh at anyone who actually keeps paying them every month for a software, that is basically abandonware at this point. It's like enabling / rewarding their bad behavior.
It's obvious where their priorities lie. Maximum profit and making "art" by pressing one button and let AI do it for you. They cater to advertizement companies - not to single individuals with creative visions.
I hope there will be an open source version of "Flash" one day. It doesn't need to be called Flash - as long as it can behave like Flash with symbols, timelines, nested animations, etc. And as long as it can support currently available commands, scripts and extensions to enhance animation workflow.
The difference will be that the open source version will be ever growing.

You are most certainly right. My patience is wearing thin, and I'm finding it almost impossible to justify continuing to pay. The open source Flash replacement idea is the ultimate dream. I pray there is some software developer/animator as frustrated as we are, that takes matters into their own hands, we can only hope.

For professional animation work there's already OpenToonz or its offshoot Tahoma2D. Open source, free, and much more capable than Flash/Animate.

Animate (especially AS3) is a very advanced piece of software. Even if it never receives another update, I’ll continue using it for the next 10 years. I’m definitely not considering any alternatives.
When you use a piece of software for a long time, you naturally build a strong emotional connection to it. The people here deserve a response from Adobe.
Adobe doesn’t value user feedback, and this forum is the clearest proof of that.

@erdalirmak if you are using AS3 you will be interested in ZIM - it is a JavaScript Canvas framework built on CreateJS which is what Animate exports to. It provides many components, conveniences and controls and has a large set of tutorials on how to use them inside Animate - see https://zimjs.com/animate - even if not using AS3... ZIM is really easy and gives you one line drag and drop, multiple hit tests, draw with pens, particle emitters are as easy as new Emitter().center(), etc.
