Animate - Individual Layers with Transparent Backgrounds

In Photoshop, I can give my layers tansparent backgrounds, if I choose.  Can the same be done in Animate ?

I've spent a couple of hours researching this and found nothing that applies to individual layers.  I've found articles on "Exporting", but I'm not interested in that.
