Animate has started giving me an error where I cannot save my document, even if I have been saving in the same location. It suggests saving under a different name or in a new location, but still gives me an error when I try. It just started doing it this week on multiple documents. As someone who uses Animate on a daily basis, I wonder if this is a bug in the latest build since I've never seen this before. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hey!
Found another workaround:
Had the unable to save document problem in Animate CC 2018. I then opened Animate CC 2017 and saved an empty document on the desktop. After this, saving works in CC 2018 too!

Any update on this? We're experience this issue as well.

I've been saving as .XFL instead. It creates a lot more documentation this way, but it's better than losing your file altogether.

Thanks for this! It's now my workaround too.

Not a software solve but we use dropbox to restore a previous version of the fla when this happens. Saved our butts more than a handful of times!

I have been able to fix this problem, and a whole bunch of other issues that appeared out of nowhere on my mac, by resetting permissions for my Home directory.
I followed the instructions here:

Thank you!
This not only fixed my issues with Animate CC, but it also fixed my issues with After Effects!

I'm having this problem and when I clicked on the last link, it says error 404 page not found.
I seem to only be able to save my files to desktop. I realize this post was from years ago, but Adobe led me to it when I asked my question.

old links often fail.
to troubleshoot this issue, first create a desktop directory with a simple name, eg. an_dir and save your fla their using a new fla name, eg, project1.fla

you may not have a default directory or you may have had one that no longer exists.

I'm back! My file problems within Animate only seem to get worse, with the latest installment being: the most recent version of a file was saved only as a swf. Earlier, I tried the above advice: creating a desktop directory and saving a fla there. But that seemed to make Animate unable to find the file when I tried to open it. I would love to have the following happy ending, from above in this thread:
"I have been able to fix this problem, and a whole bunch of other issues that appeared out of nowhere on my mac, by resetting permissions for my Home directory.

but this link is no longer available. I guess I'd like to try and see if "resetting permissions for my Home directory" works , as it did for tomwe-JL. Does anyone have an active link for that? As I mentioned, I have a heap of file management problems, but this seems like a place to start.
Thanks.

the place to start is to use a path/file name that's alphanumeric only.

I started a new doc to show what happens when I try to save. The screen shot shows it.

save locally.

I want to save it simply to Animate, but it does not offer that option. The only other option besides the cloud is the desktop, so that's what I've been doing, but that seems to create more problems.

in animate click file > save as and navigate to local path that conforms to my recommendation.

Ok, I tried to Save as
with no luck. Here's the screenshot.

create a desktop directory named flas. save to that folder.

That worked. Thank you. I shall call it a day now. But will return soon with other problems/questions.

you don't have to save to a desktop directory and you don't have to save to a directory with that name, but there are restrictions. be especially careful about saving to any cloud service. that's always unwise. save locally and then copy (don't move) to a cloud service, if you want your file on a cloud service. keep the local file so you have some backup.
