any reason why i WOULD NOT want to use AS3???

Hi,

I have a presentation that is going to be run by our CEO from an exe file. I'm currently using AS 2 and wondering if I should switch over to AS3. I want to get the current frame label and I guess it's only possible with AS3.

Is there any reason I wouldn't want to switch my movie to AS3?

Thanks,

Stan

AS3 has a learning curve that comes along with it, which involves the same sort of hair-pulling and sleep loss that you might have had when you first started using AS2.  If your file involves alot of different complex actionscript and built-in functions, then you might want to weigh your schedule against the time it might take to learn enough AS3.  If the actionscript is fairly simple, say just a handful of similar/simple commands, then it should be easier to manage.

If the only thing driving you to use AS3 is the currentLAbel bit, one thing you could do if you need to know the current label is to have a variable that you assign that value each time you enter a particular label's zone, both directions if need be.

Ok but I am willing to put in the time. I have to learn it eventually, so no it's not 'just' for this one thing, the frame label. Aside from the learning curve, any other reason not to dive in?

The file I'm using only has simple coding. I've got a giant button (size of the stage, invisible) that advances 10 frames, a key listener so I can navigate with arrows, and a few other simple things. Can't be too hard with AS3 right?

Dig in is the best I can offer...  If your boss isn't breathing down your neck for this presentation, go for it.

no he's not right now, and I have the old, unclean version if he starts to. Any recommendations on sites or tutorials?
