can I open an Adobe Animate Project on Adobe Flash CS6?

    Of course, if some of the new features were used - such as camera, parented layers and so on they will not render properly.

    Ok cool! What other new features are there on Animate that aren't on Flash CS6? Also, just curious, whats the difference between the two?

    Hi mate,

    Animate is Flash.

    They changed the name in some mismanaged and clumsy PR attempt at damage control, breaking the continuity and creating a never-ending stream of confusion.

    Flash Pro CS6 is v.12. Animate is currently in v.19, so there have been a few releases after CS6.

    To this day CS6 is the best performing version of Flash that has existed. It's almost bug-free and very sturdy.

    For character animation it holds itself very well on modern-day hardware.

    All subsequent releases are much inferior in terms of performance and stability, v.18 being the lowest point so far.

    There are a lot of new features that were introduced since CS6. Depending on what you do, you may not need any of them or you may find them so crucial to your workflow that CS will not be a reasonable option at all.

    My assessment as a character animator and designer with a lot of experience is that none of the new features is production-ready. They were all rushed out of the door too early and many of them such as camera were never needed at all. (Camera only adds fragility to files and unnecessary complications.)

    You can look up the release notes for all the Animate releases to read about the added features.

    My opinion in 2019 is that to this day CS6 + Flanimate Power Tools beats any version of Animate for character animation.
