Can't access the brush library when using the pencil tool

Is there a reason I can't access the brush library when using the pencil tool? When using the line tool, I can access the brush library and use art brushes/pattern brushes/etc. But that option is grayed out for the pencil.

Any idea what's up with that?

Doesn't sound right to me. Have you updated your graphic drivers by visiting the manufacturer's site?
