How do you join lines in Animate?

So, I have two lines. I want to connect the end anchor points of each line to join them

According to this,

https://helpx.adobe.com/si/animate/using/drawing-pen-tool.html

the open circle on the pen tool means I can join the paths. But it isn't working.

I attached a video showing the issue.

First, the points just don't join

Then doing the same action again, the points do join this time. But then the anchor points further down are suddenly disconnected.

Am I doing something wrong? How do you ACTUALLY join two lines without weird side effects?

Mosl likely your lines are each a separate Union/Drawing Object. To join them you need to Break Apart them first.

Experiment with Break Apart, Object Drawing mode on and off and simple lines in Animate, moving points with the black arrow tool (V) to get a sense of how shapes work in Animate.

Leave the white arrow / Subselect tool (A) for later.

Looks like you need to change your brush or just use the pencil tool.

Are there some brushes where joining lines just doesn't work?

That's unfortunate since I want to use this specific brush style. I'll see if I can find some sort of work around

mouse over the end-point of one line until it shows a minus sign > click it.  you should see a solid circle at the end point.  arrow over the other lines end-point until you see an open circle > click it.

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
But isn't that what I did as described in my post and shown in the video? It doesn't work. Either the lines don't connect, or they do but then a random segment elsewhere on the line disconnects

i couldn't determine what you were doing. you started near two "discs" which i could not identify.

start with a test. draw a line. draw another. connect them per my suggestion. any problem?
