How to use layer parenting with classic motion guide

How can I get the child layers of a symbol that is using a classic motion guide to orient to the path as well? Example: I have a kayak animation that follows a classic motion guide but the child layer with the person does not rotate with the kayak layer. How can I fix this?

Parenting won't work for this one, try nesting both parent and child layers on a symbol (select the layers > right click > convert layers to symbol).
