Locked on Doc, can't change to tools, object, or frame as the book shows one doing?

Hi.

 

The Doc tab should always be accessible.

 

To access the Frame tab, you need to directly select a frame or layer in the Timeline panel.

 

To have the Object tab selected, you need to have something selected on stage, like a raw shape, group or symbol instance.

 

To have access to the Tool tab, you need to select a tool in the Tools panel that have configurable properties, like the Classic Brush Tool or the Rectangle Tool.

The answers from @kglad and @JoãoCésar were what I first thought as well. The properties panel is contextual based on selection so certain things are simply not available at all times. Hope that resolves the question and that you are enjoying the book, @will!
