I teach an audio production class at a college and have used Adobe Audition ever since it was Cool Edit Pro.
We had two students lose their final audio projects on Audition with the 2023 version and 2024 version, so we switched back to 2022 and hadn't had any problems for a couple of years. But now it's started again and two students have lost projects in the last two weeks. Here is what happened two weeks ago:
Student was working on a Mac Ventura 13.1 and Adobe Audition 2022. Student went to export entire multitrack session to a wav file, but all of the export options were grayed out. So I had the student save their session (including the files) to reboot the program. We went to reopen the session and it was gone. Entirely empty. However, the session listing on the left side showed the exact time of the files. It knew exactly how long it was, but everything else was missing. No empty boxes that needed to be relinked. Nothing. And the conformed files were all sitting in the conformed files folder, but the boxes to hold them -- basically the session part of it -- was gone. We looked at the backup session files and those were empty as well. The project was completely gone.
Fast-forward to this week and a student needed to make a change in a project they'd completed Friday on a PC in our studios. They opened the session folder and it was the same thing. The timeline was completely empty, but the listed session showed the exact time of the piece. In this case, the backup had the files and session info, but there were just two files that were missing and needed to be relinked from where they were saved. (Those files were not in the conformed folder with the others.)
Total tally of projects eaten by Adobe Audition in this class now stands at four. This is clearly some kind of bug and I'd really love some advice on how to avoid it. Our current workaround is to have students save each session TWICE (so a v1 and v2) so that if one fails, the other might be there. But this is a clunky workaround and takes up computer space.
We know it is happening in 2022, 2023 and the 2024 versions. Would love a fix so that no one ends up in tears in class. I emailed the bug team, but haven't gotten a response. When I emailed them, it had only done it on a Mac, but now it's also done it on a PC.
