Waveform - cannot edit, save, or close files

Hi! I'm on Windows, and I'm having trouble modifying any files that I record in a Multitrack session. I was unable to find anything online, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here's what happens: I create a new Multitrack session and record audio on Track 1. From there, I go to Waveform to modify the "Track 1_001.wav" file that was created. However, I cannot edit it. For instance, the spot healing brush is greyed out, and all of the effects under the Effects tab are greyed out. (Toggling Spectral Frequency Display does not remedy the issue.) I also cannot save it. Under File, Save is greyed out. Lastly, I cannot close it. When trying to close the file (or Audition as a whole), I get the message, "One or more files are actively processing jobs. Please cancel these jobs or wait for them to finish." In order to get Audition to close, I need to restart my computer.

It's very strange, and despite reinstalling Audition twice and resetting it to its default settings, I still run into this issue. One other note is that whenever I switch from "Track 1_001.wav" to another file, I get the message, "Switching to another file while recording will cause recording to stop. Are you sure you want to continue?" I have a hunch that this is the unfinished "job" that the file is trying to finish, but there is no visual indication that Audition is actively recording.

Hi @Akira318496219s2r , the latest Audition Beta contains the fix for this issue, the same will be available in the next Audition release as well.

Great, thank you for your reply. I made another test file this morning, and I didn't run into any issues! All effects work, and I can close files just fine. Although it's hard to recall, you may be right---I likely paused playback in Multitrack mode before switching to Waveform (instead of stopping playback). I was scared that there was some major issue with my computer, so I'm very glad that it was just user error. Thanks again!

Thank you @Akira318496219s2r for letting us know about this bug. I can confirm we have reproduced the issue at our end and started working on a fix.

Till the time suggested workaround - while switching to "Waveform" view, ensure you have Stopped playback(instead of Pause) in multitrack mode. Please confirm if this works for you.

Hi Steve! Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the track plays perfectly fine in both Multitrack and Waveform. As for the "Switching to another file while recording" message, I only get this pop up when switching from Waveform to Multitrack, not vice versa.

I believe I'm running the latest version (23.6.1). I might try installing an older version of Audition to see if this issue is specific to the latest release.

Leaving aside the comment above, which says rather more about the person making it than it does about Audition...

If you've stopped recording, can you play the track okay in Multitrack view? Is it just when you try opening it in Waveform? You shouldn't need a Save option, because the file would have been saved when you stopped recording it. If it hasn't stopped recording, for any reason, then what you are describing seems reasonable.

But you should also note that a patch has just been issued which fixes a very similar related issue - have you applied that?

Jump to a good piece of software, Audition just sucks.
