8000 Hz, 8-bit CCITT U-LAW WAV

Hello,

I am trying to export an audio file at 8000 Hz in 8-bit with the CCITT U-LAW codec and a WAV wrapper. From media encoder I can get all of these settings except I only have 8-bit as an option. When I do a multi-track mixdown in audtion, I can do all of these settings except for the CCITT U-LAW codec. What am I missing? I found a similar post on the forum, but they did not seem to have an issues selecting the bit depth. I would prefer to do this in media encoder to speed up the export of other formats and to strip out all metadata.

No, Media Encoder won't do that one at all. And that's the reason that a lot of people end up using Audition - it has access to libsndfile formats that Media Encoder doesn't use. No I don't know why - it's freely available. In Audition, you can choose not to include any metadata simply by removing the check from the 'Save As' box, so that shouldn't be a problem. The settings you want are these:

Thank you for replying so fast! This gets me on the right track. I tried to change the file extension in the export window from .au to .wav, but when I click away it goes back to .au. Is there a way to change the file extension inside of audition or will changing the extension in file explorer be enough?

As far as I'm aware, if you select the format as waveform audio in Format Setttings and the encoding as u-Law 8-bit PCM you should end up with what you're after - although it's a long time since I've done this. Looks right though:
