Hello,
I have been using Adobe Audition for like 6 months, and I have finally had it, I need to address this issue out.
I use enhancers in Audition to get better audio quality to my Shure SM7B mic, and is the sole reason I am using the software.
(Adaptive Noise Reduction, Dynamics Processing, Multiband Compressor, Hard Limiter & FFT Filter)
However, after about 2 hours in, every single time, the microphone starts to horrible crackling sound and the only way I can reset it to normal is go to Preferences > Audio Hardware and jiggle between the Latency setting between 80 and 100.
The Audio Interface I am using is Steinberg UR22C (USB 3.1).
I have tried to do the following:
- Change the USB 3.1 Cable to the Audio Interface
- Added ferrite block at the end of the USB cable to prevent static noise.
- Tried different Latency settings but it seems to only work properly between the numbers 80 and 100.
I'd love to keep using Audition but this bottlenecks my usage and is downright frustrating.
Thanks in advance,
Mikko

Could you provide a short sample as a wav file (not an MP3) please? From your description we have no means of identifying the nature of this interference at all, I'm afraid.

That does sound more like a processing artifact than actual interference. The obvious thing to try here initially is removing the process-intensive Adaptive Noise Reduction (that you shouldn't need with a close mic position anyway) from your processing chain. I don't know how many other effects you've got in that effects rack, but having a huge pile of them in there, even if they aren't being used, will cause all sorts of processing difficuties anyway, as they are still using processing power, even if they are apparently switched off - something that a lot of users are seemingly unaware of.
What you need to do here is work out exactly what it is you need to process (and it really won't be anything like as much as you've got there for one single mic at close range), and remove everything else from the rack completely. Quite frankly, I'm somewhat amazed that it works as well as it does! Anyway, thin it out and see if that improves the situation.

Hey Steve!
I eliminate all the extra effects (even if they are tuned off) as well as try it without the Adaptive Noise reduction and see if it helps, I let you know.
Huge thanks for the help/consultation , this made my day that someone is finally able to figure something out! 🙂

I updated the settings by eliminating Adaptive Noise Reduction and removing all the extra features that I did not use, only leaving 4 enhancers on (see the image) and it does still make the same buzzing sound. Anything else that comes to mind to fix this?

The first thing you should do now is try it with nothing in the rack - if it still does it, then you can eliminate that as the cause (bearing in mind anything I said earlier about not loading it up excessively). Also, make sure that you are running the updated firmware for your UR22C - I believe that you should be at v1.5, which fixes a number of bugs, apparently. Well, that's what it says in the release note, anyway...

Hey again Steve!
I was under the impression that the UR22C was updating by itself as the days went by , but I was naiive to think this way. You were absolutely correct on this, it was the UR22C drivers that were out of date that caused the issue!!
Or well, at least I've had the Audition and my PC running for about 30 hours now and it does not make the stupid buzzing sound anymore (and I have not tinkered/reset settings, just have had them running as shown in the image above), and it works, so it makes me very confident to say that the outdated drivers were the cause.
Had to download the drivers manually from Steinberg's site, as for my experience they do not seem to update automatically which is stupid...
Super grateful to you man, thank you so much again for the help!!
So happy that the thing works now! 🙂 Cheers and have a wonderful day! ❤️

Well I'm glad it all works again. I'm not aware though of any sound devices that update themselves - for a lot of people that could spell quite a few compatibility problems, which is generally why it doesn't happen; people often need 'stable' systems and that's not the way to have one. It's bad enough that Microsoft does it without telling you (if you let it...), never mind anybody else!

Yeah this is very true, and also good to know!
Guess I jinxed it by saying too early it works, because the buzzing started again ... oh no...
Are there any other ways you can think of to eliminate the issue?
Any additional information I can give out to help to solve the issue?
Thanks in advace.

It's still possible that it's a sound device issue. Is your UR22C connected directly to a port, or does it go via a hub? If it does, then try eliminating the hub and see if that makes a difference; this is not exactly unknown for causing problems. If it isn't, just try plugging the UR22C into a different USB socket, and see if that makes a difference

Could be that yes, IT IS directly connected to the PC motherboard. I will try use different USB port to see if that helps, but it might be my motherboard and PC that is causing the issue further down the line. (PC is lke 8 years old, the Steinberg Audio Interface is like 9 months old.
