Audio repeats and skip when recording

I'm recording using Adobe Audition 23.0.0.54 and a AT2020USB+ microphone. Previously never had issues, but lately Audition is unusable-- upon playback my audio repeats itself or skips, and this is showing up in the waveform as I record I can actually see it record extra audio repeats. Any idea why this is happening? For example, when I simply count to ten it records me saying one, one.... two three.. six, six seven, etc. File attached for reference

I'm presuming that you are recording in Waveform view. If so, then something is going on with your temp buffer file. You might like to try relocating this to a space where the operating system can't get at it - by default it's in a shared space. The way it works in Wavform view is that your signal is recorded to a temp file, and not actually saved until you initiate the save when you've finished recording. Until you've done that successfully, your file is vulnerable. You can change the temp file location in Preferences.

The safest way to record in Audition is to use Multitrack view. Here, your signal is recorded direct to the final file, and this is far more robust; even if your system crashes, you will be able to recover everything up to that point. The chances of a recovery from a crash when recording in Waveform are somewhat massively reduced...

I tried recording in multitrack, changing temp file location (though not sure what you mean by in a shared space?), and even got a new microphone, and updated Audition. Still doing the same thing, repeating and popping. Any other thoughts? Way to restore to default?
