Audio wont play - playhead doesn't move - Hardware device is set

I have the problem that Audition wont output audio. I can move the playhead manually, but it wont move when I press space or the play button.

Changing the output device doesn't have an effect. Neither do restarts or resetting the workspace have an effect.

Does anybody have an idea what's the problem here?

Even though you have an appropriate sound device selected, you still need the rest of the settings for it to be correct before it will function - and it will be this that's causing the issue; the only thing that stops the transport from working is your sound device not being correctly connected. You need to check the output settings in Audio Channel Mapping; the L and R need to be routed to your sound device. You might also need to hit the 'settings' button in Audio Hardware to make sure that the device is correctly assigned in Windows.

Thanks for your reply. I have no idea what it was in the end. I got it to work eventually. Perhaps updating my drivers was the solution.

Not sure if this applies to everyone but mine seemed to be an issue with a random setting change in my PC after an update. For me it was an issue with my input rather then output but the process is the same. Here's how I fixed mine (PC).

  1.  open [Sound Settings]
  2.  click [Device Properties] on your output or input.
  3.  click [Additional Device Properties]
  4.  select the [Advanced] tab
  5.  change the [Default Format] to either CD or DVD quality

Hopethis helps!
