Audition 3 - Fresh install of Windows 7 x64- won't open

After installation of Windows 7 x64 on a new SSD, and after all Windows updates - sans some draconian anti-malware updates issued after January 14, 2020 - I installed Adobe Audition 3.0.  This is all I need for AMATURE music manipulation.  But, for some reason, on my latest incarnation of Windows 7, Adobe Audition 3.0 won't open.  I get a useless error code:  0xc0000022.  I have tried several fresh installations of Windows 7 after formatting the HD each time.  I tried installing AA3 before and (separately) after fully updating W-7.  I just can't get AA3 to open.

FYI:  I purchased Cool Edit many moons ago.  Adobe gave me Adobe Audition 2.0 at the time they purchased Cool Edit.  Then when Windows 7 was released, Adobe gave me a copy of the then old version of Adobe Audition...version 3.0.  I have used it and installed it on fresh reformatting of Windows 7 ever since (when I upgraded PCs, etc.).  I am 75 years old, retired, and cannot afford to purchase AA CC 6 nor do I need it for my simple applications.  Any help with my problem woud be very much appreciated.

Try opening Audition as Administrator (right-click on the icon - you should get item in the list giving you this option) and see if that helps. The error message is perhaps slightly less useless than you think - it's giving a clue that this is an OS issue rather than an Adobe one.

Hey Steve:  That worked!  I never would have thought of it.  So simple.  Thank you!  What can I do to be able to open the program directly?  I had suspected that the issue was with Windows.  But, I hadn't a clue as to what or why.  In fact, I am still cluless.  At least you showed me how to get into the program.

Simple - make sure that the user you are logged in as has administrative rights - that should be all you need to do.

Well, I am the only user and am logged in as Administrator.  As I indicated before, I have reformated many times over the last 15 years or so and have never had this problem before.  I am quite grateful that you suggested to open as Administrator.  But, I still don't know why, since I am the Administrator, AA3 won't open directly.  As an aside, with my Houppauge WinTV 10, I had video but no audio.  So, I tried your idea of right clicking, etc., and that got the audio working.  But all the other programs, and there are many, open without any difficulty.  FYI, I am running W-7 x64 and AA3 installed in Program files (X86).  I don't think that matters; but I want to leave no stone unturned.  Any ideas?  Whatever happens, you cured the problem from an operational standpoint.  BTW, if you are interested, I can send you a link to what I have done for a living; which you might find of interest.  But, I would like that not to appear for the general population necessarily.

I just thougt some of you might find it interesting as to what got me interested in Adobe Audition (Cool Edit) in the first place.  I am a retired broadcaster.  Back in the late 1970s, CHUM, Toronto, Canada, produced a radio documentary entitled "The Evolution of Rock" or the "EOR".  It was sold throughout the United States and was marketd then by TM.  My station purchased the program and ran it.  Then a little over 25 years later a friend of mine called me to ask if I still had the original LPs that the EOR was dilivered on. I did.  So, he suggested we digitize the entire show....all 76 hours of it!  So, enter Adobe Audition. It took us a year to (1) make perfect copies of the original and (2) to produce a "cleaned up" version.  From then onward, I have found many uses along the same lines for the program.  We did such a good job that CHUM aired one year on their radio staition shortly after we finished the project.  They had been using original tapes.  I recorded CHUM from the internet of our version of the year 1964.  We ended up with both a WAV version and an MP3 version of the show.  To give you an idea of the show, I placed this on YouTube back in 2008:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=2dp4_rpBU8I&feature=emb_logo
