Cannot figure why this is. It is a stereo track but no pan controls anywhere.Any help would be much appreciated thanks. JT.
This happens when you put a stereo track into a mono session. Start again with a stereo one, and you'll get balance controls for stereo files (you only get pan controls for mono ones).
And in case you're wondering, I can tell that it's a mono session simply from looking at the meter bar at the bottom...

I have the same problem but it is a stereo session. I did something that removed the pan nob but can't undo it.
