My legally obtained and registered copy of Audition CS6 has worked perfectly since I got it. But recently it has developed a fault and won't open. I get a message saying:
"Adobe Audition CS6 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." In short, it won't even start.
After searching for solutions online I have tried a few things, like renaming a folder in the app data directory. I've also reinstalled the software from the discs and I've downloaded and installed an update patch, but the problem persists.
Has anyone had this problem - and more importantly - solved it?
Thanks.

Did anyone solve this? CS6 just keeps crashing on start up.

I'm having the same problem. Reinstalled but to no avail. Adobe won't help. They direct me to the forums where I've been unable to find help.

Have you been through all the steps outlined in my previous answer? Just saying Audition has crashed with no further information doesn't give anybody any clue why it might be happening on your system I'm afraid. So lots more info needed.

‌I have. I tried holding the shift key etc. I have deleted the 5.0 folder my user folder. I have reinstalled. One weird thing was it worked a few times after the reinstall, then started failing again. I am running windows 8.1 on an HP Envy. It has an I7, and is a 17.3 touchscreen. 8 GB ram. So I guess there are some running this successfully on 8.1? Oh and I even tried removing QuickTime because someone had recommended that. So I am looking for the error log file... Thanks for any help you can offer.

Your start up seems to have stopped at the 'Setting up temp directories' point. My log carries on as below:
Ticks = 1748 <4724> <AuLog.Startup> <5> Setting up temp directories
Ticks = 2715 <4724> <AuLog.Startup> <5> AuUI initialization sequence complete.

Ticks = 3464 <4724> <AuLog.Startup> <5> Initializing AuScripting
Then Audition should be up and running. The log should eventually end with the Audition shut down sequence.

This seems to be the culprit??? From my event log.
Faulting application name: Adobe Audition CS6.exe, version: 5.0.2.7, time stamp: 0x505806ee
Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.325, time stamp: 0x4df2be1e
Exception code: 0x40000015
Any suggestions? I really do appreciate your help.

Yes there have been reported problems with similar .dlls in the past. Unfortunately some software tries to install it's own versions of things like MSVCR100.dll which screws up other software's use thereof. Unusually the only way to recover is to go to the Microsoft site and re-install the redistributables from there.

Well I downloaded the files from Microsoft. The first time I ran them I let them uninstall.. then I ran them again and they installed. I get the exact same error on the same dll... Where can I go from here?
How many times will Audition let me reinstall before it runs out of activations? I am unable to deactivate this copy before I reinstall because it won't even start..... ??

Here is another interesting thing.... the program seems to work after reinstall... until the 5.02 update is applied. Then I get this dll crash.

I think we are getting to the stage where we need one of the developers to chip in as I'm afraid that we have reached the limits of User to User help.

‌So how does that happen? Do they watch these threads?

Yes they do keep an eye on things but, obviously, it depends whether they are in the office and how busy they are developing the latest versions of Adobe software. You could also try submitting a Bug Report.

Well it looks like crickets... I am disappointed that can't use Audition anymore.... I guess if I keep it a version back... can you still get 5.1 instead of 5.2? 5.2 is the one blowing up.

There shouldn't be any difference in MS Runtime requirements between 5.0 and 5.2. That is very weird. If you can capture a crash dump file, I'm happy to take a look in a debugger and see if we can shake out what's happening.
To capture a crash dump file, launch Audition and let it crash, but don't close the crash dialog message. Instead, open Task Manager (Alt+Ctrl+Delete) and right-click on the "Adobe Audition CS6.exe" process and choose "Create Dump File."
This will write a file to disk and give you the path. Find that file and upload it to Dropbox, Creative Cloud, Google Drive, or another file sharing service (the file will be several hundred megabytes) and then send the link to us at audbugs@adobe.com
Has it worked fine on this computer in the past, or is this a new system?

This is not a new system and I have used the program quite a bit. This recently started happening that it would not launch at all. I did not install anything new that I can remember... So I uninstalled the program, then reinstalled. Now as long as I keep it at 5.0 it runs. If I apply the update KABOOM all the time. I will see about capturing the crash dump. I am not familiar with using Dropbox etc. so I will have to figure that part out.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this. I really like the program and want to continue to use it.

Here’s the dump file. I really appreciate your help in trying to fix this issue. It worked fine on this computer then it started crashing about three months ago (approx). If I try to create a multi file, it crashes. If I try to copy a sound bite for noise reduction, it crashes.

‌This might be a different issue. My CS6 won't even start when I apply the 5.02 update. Sounds like yours will run and is blowing up on a certain function. I will try to figure out the Dropbox thing and submit my error as well. I guess it's possible they are somehow related.

‌Not sure if it is your issue, but mine turned out to be McAfee antivirus real time scanning. If I turn that off, the program stops crashing when opening. If you run McAfee you might try temporarily disabling it....

I don't use McAfee but I disabled my antivirus anyway to see what would happen. It didn't help. Audition still crashes. My trial for CC has expired so I have no Audition now.

‌Well that sucks.... hopefully they can look at your crash report. They were getting ready to look at mine when I discovered this. If I see any other possibilities I will post them.
