Best Audio Interfaces to use, or not to use?

Hello,

Just curious if Adobe has a list of best interfaces to use with Audition. I'm considering getting a MOTU 8pre but I want to make sure I'm not going to have driver issues.

Hi.

I don't think there is any such thing as a list of best interfaces to use with Audition since I suspect that any manufacturer not included on the list would not be best pleased!

However, I can tell you that I have and use the MOTU 8pre interface, actually the "old" version, connected via Firewire to my fully updated Win 10 machine, and it works pretty well flawlessly.  Very ocassionally the unit does misbehave in some way; simply switching it off and back on cures the misbehaviour.

I have an original 8Pre which has always worked fine, but at present it gets used as an ADAT expansion for an RME Fireface, to expand the number of line inputs available without having to replug things.

But no, there's no official list - for exactly the reason that emmrecs says. Oh, and also because it would be constantly going out of date. If you want me to stick my neck out, I'd say that any device that comes with its own ASIO driver is going to work fine. They tend to be slightly more expensive, but generally this is because the manufacturer has taken it seriously.

What is just as important though is to consider what happens when something goes wrong. Absolutely top of my list is Audient. It's a long story, but they are brilliant - second to none. They go way beyond the call of duty! And at the other extreme, never ever ever purchase anything from Creative Labs. Any company that's had a class action against them for lying about specifications has to be shot to hell internally - and their after-sales is virtually non-existent, whatever they claim.

Hi Steve, Thanks for providing good info. I wondered if you could offer any advice with the following issue? I have been sucessfully running a 16 channel multitrack recording system, using two chained M-Audio Delta 1010 soundacards on a Windows 7 PC (P4) set up, recording into Adobe Audition. A time has come to upgrade to a Windows 10 set up and subscribe to the latest version of Audition and really need to know WHAT? multichannel interface to use? I do use a mixing desk at the front end to control signal levels. The main thing is I/O. As you have expeience in this field I'd appreciate you advice. Oh, also I'm not minted, so looking at quality but also value without stooping to Behringer levels! Thanks

Never that easy to specify things like this - it depends very much on what your personal take on some manufacters is. Behringer these days produce much better stuff than they used to, but you're still stuck with the stigma of the name, which is synonymous with okay electronics, but cheap junk hardware that doesn't last five minutes. RME boxes, which are what I use, aren't that cheap but they're incredibly well supported. Somewhere in between lie Tascam, and the device that will do what you want and gets good reviews is the Roland Studio Capture which also gives you pleny of portable options too.

But if you're looking just for line level I/O and want an up-to-date interface, you have to think Thunderbird. And the choice that a lot of people are making at that price level (somewhere between Roland and RME) is the MOTU 16A AVE.
