Does Audition compare to other DAWs like Pro-Tools? AND..... Does Audition support the use of 3rd party VST/AU instrument plug-ins such as Native Instruments Komplete VSTs?

This is a deciding factor for my purchase of this program.

No, Audition does not support VST instruments. It only supports VST effects. Audition is mainly an audio editor and mixer/track laying software. It is not really a music compositional tool.

In some ways it does, in other ways it doesn't. A lot of PT users use Audition as a mastering tool and final editor, because it's better than most (if not all!) for this purpose. Audition is also pretty good for recording and assembling 'acoustic' production - ie real instruments recorded with microphones, etc. But, it's not a MIDI production tool at all. It never really has been, even when it dipped a toe in the water. So really, you could consider Audition as an adjunct to other music production software, that does all the stuff that they aren't so good at.

You will always find though, whatever you purchase, the need for specialised tools of one sort or another. If you want top-class NR and restoration tools, you purchase iZotope's RX3 - if you want top-class vocal pitch correction and alteration, you purchase Melodyne. Both of these will cost you several times what you pay for Audition. So what you get with Audition is a top-class editor for what amounts to a bargain price. That's certainly true as far as Audition CS6 is concerned, but the price benefits of CC are a little harder to determine since you can't have a licenced copy on a one-off payment basis.

It works great for tracking music but that's about it...  I tried HARD to use Audition as a DAW to record and mix music with my band.  The problem is a LACK OF SUPPORT.  It seems to be missing typical features that most other DAWs usually have.  Yet, Audion is as good, if not better, than other DAWs in many ways.  The truth is, if you are doing really basic music production, Audition is fine and should work to your satisfaction.  Otherwise, try Cakewalk, it's FREE and better suited for music recording, mixing and editing.  Adobe treats Audition like a "Red Headed Stepchild" with its support.  The "Community and Forums" are a joke.  Mostly, you are going to run into podcasters and single-track people in here.  Doing multi-track in Audition is a pioneering effort, that means YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.  Bail on these Clowns.  It's half baked and not worth the agrivation.

You see, the thing is that you have clearly failed to understand what Audition actually is (it's not a DAW). Adobe's original intention when purchasing Syntrillium was to add audio editing as an adjunct to its video editing software, whilst still retaining its broadcast editing facilities. It is not music creation software as such.
